Q. What is Ecobinder?
A. E is a by-product of the paper making process consisting primarily of lignins.
Q.What is EcoBinder Endurance™?
A. A tougher variety of Ecobinder with addition of polymers, surfactants and a variety of vegetable oils.
Q. How does it work?
A. Both products penetrate the surface, bonding with the bed material and forming a protective shield for the road.
Q. What types of roads should Ecobinder be used on?
A. They work very well on gravel roads which carry a wide variety of traffic loads. However, do not expect it to perform any better than the road condition, itself.
Q. How long can we expect the dust control effect to last?
A. When applied in the spring at the rate of 2 liters per sq. meter, dust abatement lasts well into late fall before it was broken up by a grader. Of course this is dependent on the type and quantity of traffic that runs over the road. IE - If the road has a great deal of heavy equipment traffic it may need a second application in mid summer. EcoBinder Endurance™ has a greater longevity because of it's innate ability to resist prolonged rains; it will, however, breakdown eventually.
Q. How is the product sold?
A. They are sold by the liter or gallon.
Q.How much does the product cost?
A. The price depends on commodity prices as well as quantities ordered. Please fill out the "request for information" form if you are interested in a quotation.
Q.Can it be mixed with water?
A. Both are designed to be mixed 1 to 1 with water.
Q. What road surface preparations are needed?
A. The road surface should be well graded prior to the application. This grading should leave at least 1" to 2" of loose material on the road surface and should cover any compacted traffic paths. An additional benefit that EE provides is that it stabilizes the road surface and keeps it from unraveling as soon as it would without the treatment.
For areas that are prone to have potholes, it is recommended that either these areas be graded deeper to eliminate the pothole or that a heavier application of EE be applied to hold the loose road material in the potholes. It is also recommended that the road surface be pre wet with water which will make for a deeper and quicker penetration of the EE into the road base.
Q. How is it applied?
A. They should be applied with a regular water tanker truck with spray nozzles and a pump. It is not recommended that the product be applied by a gravity system as proper penetration is not achieved.
Q. What is the rate of application?
A. The rate that has been used for first time applications is 2 liters per square meter. At this rate, the product has been observed penetrating the road surface to approximately 1 inch in depth. This should be adequate to support normal traffic. However, if heavier traffic is anticipated, a second application of between 1 and 2 liters per sq.mt. may be necessary. Also, according to observations over the past 2 years, applying the product at this rate produced a traffic bound mat that resembled a bituminous mat.
Q. How long does it take to penetrate the road surface?
A. Generally speaking, they will penetrate a freshly graded road quickly; but it takes several hours on a warm day to set up. It is beneficial, (although not imperative), to keep traffic off the road for a few hours on a hot day and longer if the temperature is cooler. If traffic must pass before either product is set, it should be advised to move slowly so as to pick up minimal product on it's tires.
Q. What about clean-up of freshly-applied product from vehicles or equipment?
A. The product is water soluble and is washed of a vehicle easily with a power washer and soap.
Q. What about applying it next year?
A. There is a residual build up over time; but it does take a few years to note this.
